Technical Support and Off Campus Access

This guide provides tips about accessing library materials both on and off campus, as well as what to do with security warnings when accessing library databases.

Using Digital Course Reserves

For best results, students, faculty, and staff should login to their library accounts prior to attempting to access an item on course reserve.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • From the Library Homepage scroll down to the search box and click on COURSE RESERVES.
  • Course reserves can be searched by instructor name, course code, or item title.
  • Instructor – type the instructor’s last name and first name
  • Course Code– type the course number without spaces. For example: BIO111
  • A listing of the items on reserve for that course will come up. Digital items will indicate “online access”. Click on “files/(pdf)” to download the full text of the reading.
  • To print the reading, click on the print icon from the Adobe toolbar appearing in the body of the reading or move the cursor over the text until a toolbar appears. Then hit “ok” on the next screen.
  • Be sure to log out from your library account when using a public computer.

 HINTS

  • For best results use either Chrome or Firefox web browsers.
  • Mac OS users must install Firefox web browser to view course reserves.
  • Most readings are PDFs, so it is necessary to have the (free) Adobe Reader installed on your computer.
  • PC users can listen to sound files using the Windows Media Player installed on your PC. Mac OS users should install Flip4Mac for Mac WMV player. This is available free at: Flip4Mac for WMV player

Trouble with viewing or listening to digital course reserves?

Trouble with viewing or listening to digital course reserves?

Most readings are available as PDFs, so it is necessary to have the (free) Adobe Reader installed on your computer.

PC users will listen to sound files with the Windows Media Player that is installed on your computer. Mac OS users should install VLC media player.

If you intend to view multiple course reserve documents you will find it much easier to log into your Library Account before accessing Digital Course Reserves. This makes it possible to view/print multiple documents without having to login each time.
