The Caldecott Award

The Caldecott Medal is awarded to the artist of "the most distinguished American picture book for children." The award is chosen by a division of the American Library Association.

About the CILIP Awards

The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) is the professional body for librarians, information specialists and knowledge managers in the United Kingdom. 

The CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals are the UK’s oldest and best-loved children’s book awards, recognising outstanding reading experiences created through writing and illustration in books for children and young people.

The Carnegie Medal is awarded by children’s librarians for an outstanding book written in English for children and young people.

The Kate Greenaway Medal is awarded by children’s librarians for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people.

 

Coretta Scott King Award

"The Coretta Scott King Awards annually recognize outstanding books for young adults and children by African American authors and illustrators that reflect the African American experience. The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors his wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood. "

The Newbery Award

The Newbery Medal is awarded to an author "for the most distinguished contribution to literature for children." The award is chosen by a division of the American Library Association.

Pura Belpre Award

"The award is named after Pura Belpré, the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library. The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented annually to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth."
