This is guide is designed to offer a list of resources to help our community find the help they need to address their mental health well-being. 

Whether it be on campus, in your hometown, or through a federal agency, support is available to you where and when you need it.

Statistics

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) compiles statistics about mental health each year to show how many people suffer with some form of mental illness. 

  • 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year.

  • 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year.

  • 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year.

  • 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24.

  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-34.

It is important to understand that you are not alone and there is help out there available for you. 

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) said it best: "Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a medical problem, just like heart disease or diabetes." It is important to understand this and what mental illness is
