Interlibrary Loan

All currently registered students, faculty, and staff members are eligble to use interlibrary loan services.

The following is a list of items that cannot be borrowed through interlibrary loan:

• Books owned by the Elihu Burritt Library or currently available for loan through the CCSU catalog
• Textbooks (books needed for an entire semester)
• Entire issue of journals or periodicals
• Some theses and dissertations
• Some audio-visual materials (videos, CDs, DVDs)
• Books recently published (within the past several months)
• Rare books and other fragile, old materials

If you need helping checking to see if an item you want is owned by the Elihu Burritt Library or if the item can be borrowed from one of the other state universities or community colleges, please contact a librarian at 860-832-3410.

There is no cost to use interlibrary loan services, which are provided to you free of charge. However, fines do accrue at the rate of 25¢ a day for overdue items.

The delivery time for an interlibrary loan item depends on what the item is and where it is coming from. Requests for articles are generally filled within a few days, but books and media can take up to 7-10 days. In rare cases, we need to get items from overseas, and those items can take much longer to arrive.

When your requested item has arrived, you will be notified via email that your item is ready for pick-up. Please make sure that a valid email address is in your ILLiad record. You may also check your ILLiad account to monitor the progress of your request.

Items are available to be picked up at the Circulation Desk located on the first floor of the library. Most articles are available electronically in PDF format and are accessible by accessing your ILLiad account. Instructions for accessing electronic articles are provided in the emailed notification.

Items can be returned to the Circulation Desk located on the first floor of the library. They may also be placed in the book drop located on the North side of the building (facing the parking lot).

There is no limit to the number of requests one can make. However, staff may only be able to process a few requests a day in order to give equal time to other patrons' requests.

Each book or other media that we borrow from another library has a due date set by that library. On average, items can be kept for several weeks.

You can ask for a renewal on an item through your ILLiad account. Once you log in, choose the item that you want to renew and click on Request Renewal. This request is sent to the lending library. They will answer back with a yes or no and ILL staff will notify you via email of their decision. If the item is already overdue, please contact the ILL staff at 860-832-3408 or swhite@ccsu.edu, and they will make the renewal request for you.
