What faculty needs to know about the CCSU Library's full range of services

Google Scholar: Off-Campus Access to Scholarly Resources

Google Scholar Search

Google Scholar is a subset of Google allowing users to search scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites.

What you find may be available in one or more ways:

1. Freely available on the web (i.e, open access). Click on the link for the article,

2. Available for a fee behind a "paywall". Request the article through Interlibrary Loan,

3. Freely available through one of CCSU's research databases. Look for (click on) the 'Find a Copy @ CCSU' link. ***

*** If you are off-campus, you will need to configure your device to see the 'Find a Copy' link. Here's how:

  • Go to scholar.google.com
  • Click on the in the upper left hand corner and choose 'Settings'.

  • Choose 'Library Links' and search for 'Central Connecticut State University'. Choose each occurence and 'Save'.

How Do I Find Articles in the Databases and Link them in my Online Course(s)?

There are many ways to find articles for use in your courses.:
  • If you have the title, you can search the Library's Online Catalog.
  • If you are looking for articles, you can enter in keywords either within the Online Catalog or a Library Database, and filter your results.
  • If you are interested in articles from a specific journal, find the journal within the e-journal finder. You can then click on the database where this journal is found and search for articles within that specific journal.
The important tip here is that you provide the permalink to the article, not the link that is found in the top browser line.  This link will stay "live" when you include it in your course materials.  Here is a screenshot as to where that permalink is found in the Ebsco databases. Location of the permalink will differ across databases - if you have any trouble finding the links (or articles), ask a librarian!
