Design Research Guide

Use this research guide as your first stop in finding books, articles, websites, and more on the subject of graphic and information design.

In the Library's Reference Collection

You will find design books in Stack 4 of the library, with call numbers beginning with "N." The Library of Congress Classification System for "N" is broken down below, making your search much easier!

We also have Reference Books that may be useful in your research. Reference Books are located on the 2nd floor of the Library:

Design Dictionary

Design Encyclopedia

Search for Books using CentralSearch


Type in keywords. Use quotation marks to search a phrase (ex. "history of typography). Books may be available in print or online format.

To find reference books, add the word reference to your search. 

To find ebooks, filter your results to Online (under 'Format' in the left hand column of the results page).
