Generative Artificial Intelligence: Practical Uses in Education – Simple Book Publishing, available at https://pressbooks.openedmb.ca/aiineducation/
An email from the Rebus OER Network alerted me to an open educational resource (an online textbook) on the practical uses of AI in Education.
Generative Artificial Intelligence: Practical Uses in Education was published last January by a team of authors from Canada's RRC Polytech. While it might seem older (given how quickly generative AI like ChatGPT evolved), it is still apropos. Being an openly licensed resource, you could redistribute it or modify it for your own uses with attribution (review its Creative Commons license level to understand what's possible.) It explains what generative AI is, offers links through to different types of generative AI tools, and shows specific use cases to help educators in their regular teaching and administrative duties.
From the ebook:
This OER was produced for educators who wish to find positive and productive ways to incorporate generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools into their work. This includes:
- using AI tools to develop courses, lesson plans, activities, assessments, and rubrics;
- leveraging AI tools to enhance student learning, and existing in-class activities and assignments;
- teaching students how to engage with AI effectively, ethically, and responsibly; and
- utilizing AI tools to efficiently complete administrative tasks.
This resource is focused on how AI tools can be used in polytechnic education. However, much of the content will also be relevant to educators in other educational contexts, like university or high school. The term ‘instructional staff’ is used widely in this resource and is meant to include instructors, professors, lecturers, teachers, educational assistants, and tutors."
